Poetry Slam Hits Forbes

Central West Libraries are calling all poets, hip-hop artists, storytellers and wordsmiths to speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing your original poem at the Australian Poetry Slam heat — an electric live event where the audience is the judge! It will be held at Forbes as part of the Kalari-Lachlan River Arts Festival.

The Australian Poetry Slam is not a poetry reading. It’s more like a howling literary campfire with verbal voodoo, breathless rhythms and sweat breaking nerves.

All contestants are given a mic, a live audience and just two minutes to impress the judges (selected at random from the audience) with their spoken words. Talented spoken word artist Miles Merrill will be the MC. Come along to the workshop, be part of the audience or perform.

Are you a musician, singer, dancer, visual artist, crafts maker or something else creative? Share your talents at the Kalari-Lachlan River Arts Festival beside beautiful Lake Forbes on Sunday 4 September. Registration is free if you wish to perform or demonstrate your work. If you’d like to sell your wares, then stall and marquee sites are only $20. Register online by 19 August, or email to be part of this compelling celebration of country creativity.
