And After the Sparkles....

Lies a beautiful day in wait.

So many plans while the sun is out, but first one must get all the children's Saturday morning sport out of the way.

A Different Point of View

I have never found much to like about a -7 degree frost

But this morning my 4yr old daughter couldn't believe the amount of sparkles we were surrounded by on our early morning trip to the school bus

She was right

Everything was sparkly

The sheep were even sparkly

It was rather magic

I saw the frost through sparkly eyes this morning for the first time ever

Now I will remember that I am surrounded by sparkles every morning.

What a way to start our day!!

The Ship Song Project

The people at the Sydney Opera House wanted to remind people of how wonderful the icon, and the culture it represented, was and decided to do it through song.

Listen to it.

It is hauntingly beautiful.

SCHEME TO ATTRACT YOUNG FARMERS

Young farmers could soon become involved in a scheme to remediate unproductive land.

The New South Wales Farmers Association says it will seek changes to the native vegetation act to unlock access and sell-off mismanaged land

Michelle Obama

“That it has to be a true partnership and you have to really really like and respect the person that you are married to because it is a hard road. I mean that is what I tell young couples, don’t expect it to be easy, mending two lives and trying to raise others and doing it forever… That is a recipe made for disaster. So there are highs and lows, but if in the end if you can look him in the eye and say I like you. I stopped believing in love at first sight, I think you go through that wonderful love stage, but when it gets hard you need a little bit more.”

Doctors For the Bush

A petition has been launched to establish a 24-hour medical retrieval service in central western NSW. The service currently only operates in daylight hours. This means that if a person is injured or ill and needs an urgent transfer to a regional base or Sydney hospital after 6pm, the retrieval service cannot respond.

If you would like to assist with this petition please email nredmond@orange.nsw.gov.au

On the 10th of September each year people around the globe demonstrate a worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicide.  This year the NALAG Suicide Network is organising

"The Walk Towards Hope"

This walk aims to:

Promote awareness of suicide prevention
Provide a Remembrance Ceremony for lives lost to suicide
Shine a light on the issue of suicide in the Dubbo region

When:   Saturday 10th September 2011
Time     11.30am - The walk will start from Bob Jane T-Marts in Macquarie St
             12 noon - Remembering Ceremony
             12.30 - Lunch

"We hope to shine a light on the issue of suicide in the Dubbo region, promote help-seeking and acceptance for those who might have suicidal thoughts and provide a remembrance ceremony to remember those who have lost their lives to suicide. There is also the opportunity to get together as a community and socialise with others over a free BBQ."

'We hope that as many community members as possible can attend on the day to stand in solidarity to support this very important issue.

Also, any organisations or groups who would like to walk as a team, or donate resources and service information to information bags are also more than welcome to do so.'

Rise

Watch Mia Freedman's interview with Ingrid Poulson below.

Her book Rise is a must read, its been out for a few years but watching this interview below reminded me what an incredible lady Ingrid is and what she has endured is unimaginable.

Her resilience is inspiring.

Drinks??

Friday afternoons always leave me feeling like I should be sitting in a bar somewhere with a drink in my hand.

A hangover from the days when I use to live and work in Sydney

Favourite haunts were The Oak @ Double Bay

Royal Oaks Hotel

The Bellevue @ Paddington

Hotel, Pub, Restaurant, Sports Bar, Sydney: Bellevue Hotel

The Lord Dudley @ Paddington

and later we could always found at Mansions @ Kings Cross

and if I really want to show my age The Aussie Rules Club which is now know as Club Swans (hasn't got the same ring to it if you ask me)

and remember the Bourbon and Beefsteak next door

The Bourbon's website says it is "renowned as undoubtedly being one of Sydney’s most beautiful and stylish venues".

I kind of don't remember it as being as such but will believe them and it has been a while since I frequented its doors.

There were others of course than those mentioned above, but they are the ones that spring to mind.

So on Friday's where are or were your favourite bars/pubs and clubs.

Are you like me and always feel a yearning for a cold glass in your hand on a Friday afternoon or is that just me?

Did you ever frequent the above establishments?  We may have crossed paths.

Is 4pm too early to open a bottle of sparkling?

Here's to Friday afternoon drinks and happy memories!

Cheers
