International Women's day dinner Blayney 17 March

International  Women’s Day celebrations in Blayney on March 17th.

Guest Speaker for this year’s IWD Dinner conducted by The Blayney & District Evening VIEW Club, is renowned sculpture artist Gabriella Hegyes

Gabriella migrated from Hungary over 30 years ago, by swimming across the sea from Yugoslavia to Italy as an illegal, to reach a ‘better place’. She was welcomed by the Italians, and spent almost 2 years in a refugee camp before coming to Australia in 1977 as a legal immigrant.

Today Gabriella, trained in sculpture, photography and printmaking, has moved to installation based work where all these skills could be employed. Her work is inspired by memory/place/identity. She studied fine arts at Wollongong, the National art School, University of Western Sydney and Monash University and has participated in numerous solo and selected group exhibitions around Australia and in Japan.

Everyone is invited to come and hear Gabriella’s interesting life story and view some of her works  on March 17th at the Blayney Bowling Club 6.30pm. Tickets available at Blayney Sports Store (Ph 63682053) and must be collected and paid for ($38) by March 10th for catering purposes.

Proceeds from this dinner will be donated to The Smith Family’s Learning for Life Program, which aims to break the cycle of welfare dependence of many disadvantaged families by supporting their children at school.

All welcome, male and female to this popular annual event.
